POS software is a must-have tool for small business owners who are running the business such as restaurant, bar, Bookshops and more. POS software can help business owners run and control their business easily. I’m going to introduce some of free POS software that you can use for free of charge.

1. TavernerPOS

TavernerPOS is a free POS software system for use in bars, clubs, and public houses.
It offers back office management, reporting, menu modifiers, manager facilities, multiple terminals, kitchen printers, point of sale hardware support and cash terminal support.
TavernerPOS is a fork of FloreantPOS, aimed at simplifying and streamlining work in bar and public house environments rather than larger restaurants, and makes use of FloreantPOS’s  ‘TAKE OUT’ ticket method for sales across the bar.  This can be renamed to suit individual taste and requirements.
TavernerPOS is built on Java platform, thus it runs on Windows, Linux, and OSX.

2. FloreantPOS

FloreantPOS is enterprise grade restaurant POS software. It is one of the free POS software that allows a business owner to use with free of charge. It is built on Java platform which can run on any platform including Windows, Linux, and MAC. You can use it use as single cash terminal or multiple terminals in the client-server model. It supports a wide range of database systems such as MySQL, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
It provides order types such as “Dine In“, “Take Out“,  “Home delivery“,  “Phone based Order” and “Pick up“. And it provides “Table Management“, “Scheduling Order” and “Driver Database“. It also supports Kitchen control:

  • Route instructions to Kitchen receipt printer
  • Track wastage and assign dedicated Kitchen printers for different terminals

FloreantPOS supports multiple taxes, per item tax, tax exemption. It included Vat/Tax sales system for the UK and European.
It also ships with a standard set of financial reports including sales summary and detail report, gratuity report, drawer pull, hourly income report and credit card reports.

3. Wanda POS

Wanda POS is also a free POS software that you can use for free of charge. It is suitable for a wide range of business activities. Wanda POS is easy to use and has exceptional flexibility including the Unicode functionality. It can be used for Restaurants, Bars, Cafeterias, Bookshops and more. It gives the basics of keeping track of every business transaction in the user’s economic activity. Wanda POS also provides table management with reservations and kitchen printing.

 

4. Chromis POS

Chromis POS is open source POS software for your shop, restaurant, bar, and more.
Here are the features :

  • Runs on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 & 10.
  • Multi-sale modes.
  • Supports an extensive range of hardware.
  • Screen resolutions from 800×600.

5. eHopper

eHopper is also a free point of sale application that help a business owner to assist their POS solution . It comes with inventory management, contact management, handling tips and split payments, and employee management. eHopper can easily run a small store end-to-end.

6. Loyverse

Loyverse is a totally free point of sale application intended for use on any iOS or Android devices. It was built with the intention of making it easy to build customer loyalty through technology.

7. uniCenta

uniCenta is an open source POS software that comes with inventory management, CRM, reporting and employee management features. uniCenta is also compatible with any type of hardware – even mobile.

8. ZeroPOS

ZeroPOS is a cloud-based point of sale application that is 100% free for all basic POS functionality.  It runs nearly all small-mid size retailers. ZeroPOS also gives you unlimited stores, registers, support, users, and products.

First, you should try them all and then you can decide. You’ll save a lot of money using free POS software. However, free POS software lacks some features that you may need. Thus, I recommend that you go with the paid POS software if you feel that they’re not suitable for your POS solution. If you go with paid POS solution, you’ll get more features as well as software support.
